The principle I live by
I believe that there’s more to life than just doing what others expect or want you to do, hence, I have always been labelled as a strong-willed person with bull-headed attitude right from the start. I have boundless enthusiasm for everything creative, therefore, it surprised a lot of people that I took up a Law Degree and actually passed it. Within me, I knew ‘law’ was the opposite of what I am. I follow no rules except the one in my heart. To live life to the fullest and be happy with what you are.
Jane of all traits
Hence, this answers the ONE question that many people have asked me before…you’re doing so many things, how do you do it? I am a writer, a designer, a mother (by far, the toughest occupatin of the human race), a singer and intend to pursue music-making too in the near future. I intend to make all of them work…impossible? Nah…that word has been deleted from my dictionary. Jack of all traits, Master of none…something people say. As a student in high school, I played all sorts of sports including basketball, netball, badminton, squash, handball, bowling, swimming and attempted to play volleyball too but the sheer pain of having the ball hit the wrong part of the arm was akin to giving birth…to me!
Marsha in the Banking line in the Legal Dept??? Nah…..
Because I had a law degree, I was offered the position of a Legal Officer in a bank right after graduating. I worked for AMMB Factors (M) Sdn. Bhd. under the watchful eye of my first official boss, Mr. Bob Yap, for a couple of years before the economy took a big hit and everything crumbled. Remember those days? Absolutely aweful. And being in the legal department, you can be sure that things got a little hectic and mighty stressful too. I got transferred to the mother company which was the Merchant Bank, AMMB the Corporate Services Department offering Factoring Facilities (I call this is the kind of loan people call legal daylight robbery - too expensive and risk too high). Vetting documents and approving agreements, making ‘threatening’ calls to people in financial trouble really got to me! After four years of banking, I QUIT!!!
I guess that’s when I decided to do things the unconventional way….my way. I got into a CantoRock band and sang in a lounge with them for a year plus but we were together for some time before that for practise and such. I miss those days. I was also giving private tuition to a selected few students then. More money cannot be wrong, I thought.
High time of my life
Around this time, it was time to settle down, hence, I got out of the band (but not before performing LIVE in front of about 10,000 plus crowd in Sunway Lagoon Beach Resort! Awesome but a scary performance. Never had stage fright in my life but that was the one time I felt butterflies, spiders, cockraoches, beetles…etc crawling all over my tummy.
My discovery of the power of the internet
As soon as Joshua, my first child was delivered, I got a job in Asianauto.com under their Online Marketing department. That was where I found out more about search engines, online marketing and search engine optimization. Was happy learning something new because I knew the Internet would be explosive and that I will have very good advantage because Malaysia is still in the early stages of improving Internet services. This is pre-broadband days.
After Asianauto.com, I got a new job closer to home at AsiaOnAir.com also in their online marketing department. But later on, I was also used for my offline marketing skills, organizing contests and also producing content. The content I produced was basically for their LIVE movies and LIVEmusic sections - the coolest jobs ever because I get paid to watch movies (free movie previews passes) and free CD albums. I got an ex-colleague from AMMB days who was working in Universal music who let me choose the CDs that I want to review. Damn! That was a cool job, man. The only difficult thing about reviewing these things is that since you’re getting them free, you’ll feel a tinge of guilt writing anything bad about the movie or album even if it sucked big time!

Currently, I am a freelance work-at-home writer, graphic designer and singer.
As a writer, I write search engine optimization articles, web content for blogs, newsletters, mailing lists and websites. These articles are important for gaining search engine popularity because search engines love content. The more relevant and useful content there is, the better the ranking. By hiring a SEO (search engine optimization) writer like me, google.com will love you!
As a graphic designer, I work mostly on below-the-line stuff like business cards, brochures, flyers and other promotion and marketing related stuff.
As a singer, I was singing with Empire Showbiz (Malaysian Event Management company) for functions, dinners, weddings…etc. I provide voice-over services and hope to branch out into the jingles-singing industry as well. Any takers? Because of time contraint, I have stopped performing for now…but in the future, who knows? When I have more time, I suppose.
My motto in life is “Dreams make the soul, without the soul, the body is NOTHING. So live your dreams….” This is what I preach….and this is what I live.
