Eh, Merdeka coming lah, so, it’s time to be a little patriotic, rite? I mean, we’re Malaysian what, rite?
Right. I loved your response.
OK, here’s the thing. I love Merdeka. I think it’s very meaningful but then Merdeka, to me, in my personal opinion, I think, I guess, I opine….is more important to some other people than to people like me. Let’s classify ‘like me’….planning to get out somewhere with more freedom of speech!!!! I love Malaysia and admire what the country has become so far but somewhat, if you ask me to sing the ‘Negaraku’ song or wave the Malaysian flag, no way lah. But then we have more than 60% of Malaysians who will what. So…ok-lah. Set lah.
There was once I saw a car that looks like a Malaysian flag. That was way over the top, man! Never see anything like it before, dude! Then got little-little flags all over the roof! Wahlau-eh. Classic case of a man gone bongcus or a man with a flag-production business gone down the drain.
It’s strange, you know. I’ve never celebrated Merdeka in a big way at all. To me, Merdeka is when there are lots of good ads, a holiday, got fireworks (I think)….that’s it. A lot of my friends think that the day before Merdeka is always stag night….a night to get totally wasted because no need to go to work lor! Come to think of it, patriotism is only apparent among the Bumiputras leh….we all, the rest….especially me categorised under LAIN-LAIN (niamah!) lagi no need to say. Once again, I say, I love Malaysia but……cannot say lah, after all those gangs come to my blog and then check my IP address and then come with handcuffs and all that….don’t want lah.
See lah, want to write something from deep inside my heart without lying is very difficult, you know. You scared kena tangkap (arrested), you know. That’s whylah, people like me who have a big and fast fat mouth, should live in another country.
But seriously, if the government told you that if you don’t have a Malaysian flag waving victoriously on your door, your car or your office, there’s a penalty involved, what would you do? Have you, my dear friends, ever waved a Malaysian flag(s) before or not? Let’s be patriotic a bit lah, ok? How many more days to Merdeka only, you know.
Shit….don’t know whether they will come and catch me or not?
| Have you ever waved a Malaysian flag during Merdeka or not?
1) Yes, I have. Loved it! |
I did once a long long time ago, during college…it was a one off…

one off also better than me. only malaysian i waved were ones with chocolate sweets inside of the batang (pole)
I have done it…and it does fel good. I always think that we should be grateful that we’re not a colonised nation anymore. No need to follow the ‘rhythm’ of the ruling Nation..but to have our own freedom and choice.
I noticed Merdeka seemed to be meaningful to the Malays than other races here. YOu’ll see the Malays donning their cars and houses proudly with Malaysia Flags. And I do mean PROUDLY!..whereas the other races are oblivious to this strong patriotic display.
It’s a shame..as Malaysia is our birth land…though we’re chinese by descent. Do you know that the Chinese outnumbered the Malays in 1940 in Peninsular Malaya? It’s true.
We Chinese were here in the 13th century even before Parameswara landed in Melaka. By right we also should’ve been given bumi rights…but alas..due to some ‘you know what’ amongst the Politicians during 1957..the Chinese were not recognised as Bumis though we were here earlier than the Malays. But when the Portugese came in 1511 to conquer Melaka…their descendants were given Bumi rights after 1957…though they came here only in 1511 which is more than 200 years AFTER the Chinese were here first! Now you know.

first of all, i am surprised that you did because to me, you’re not the patriotic kind. Two, I am surprised (again) that you can remember dates but then again, your memory is like an elephant’s. I got A for Sejarah all the way also cannot remember when was the first Merdeka.
But it’s really true, never waved a Malaysian flag in my life. Dunno….don’t feel a part of it, really. But I am also not Chinese wor although I consider myself one. I am LAIN-LAIN (Others) wor….I take this to heart. So, I can do whatever I want, stand on the fence, dance on the fence, pee on the fence…..all also OK what. I am not being radical or racial. I very small number only.
So, even if Chinese landed here first, more succesfful here first, more prominent here first…..how come? This is Muslim country what? Then we should all be a little more…..er……balanced? I am talking on behalf of all chinese ah. I am not chinese at all. I am Cap Kapak….Brand X, But seriously….dont know what else to say.
It’s good that you can find something to wave the flag over. Reallly! Seriously. What…..serious lah
Huh?? What does it look like again?
I have never waved a Malaysian flag in my near 50 years of life. Over the years of being away from Malaysia (no longer a Malaysian citizen, I can’t quite remember what the flag actually looks like. 13 stars right?

this one lagi teruk. 50+ and still never wave flag. i better go wave one and challen Judy Leese!
Judy: nope, its completely red with a white cross in the centre and its the “neutralest” country in the world where the citizens can speak their mind without being cuffed and thrown in the slammer.
and yes, I waved a BolahLand flag during my school days or carried to be exact. Was in the Scouts and was chosen to join the Merdeka parade where I really paraded myself like a blooming fool.
And dun worry, they won’t cuff you before they cuff me.
Bumi rights? naaaaaaaa they can keep it la.
“Certain” dumb races showing more patriotism? of course la, simply because thats the only freaking thing that they are good at, apart from eating, shitting, sleeping and having sex…and ending up with 2 dozen little buggers running around eating salt fish and tapioca leaves every freaking day of their lives because mama and papa didn’t have to money to buy condoms and didn’t have the cow sense where to shoot it…HAHAHAHAHAHA. Bumi status? naaaaaaa….keep it la..and using the word NIAMAH is an understatement…
I am proud to be who I am, so there…..2 every1 his/her OWN huh?

Para-para penonton dan pembaca sekalian. Idea was telah dibentangkan diatas bukanlah idea saya. Dia saja yang kata walaupun saya yang menulis blog ini. Sekalian. Terima Kasih.
Ha ha ha ha….actually, come to think of it, I think I waved the Malaysian flag once before. Marching band in high school. we all held the flag and waved to the crowd. You are really IT, man. IT. I used to be able to say things like that but motherhood changed me liao. Now, I think hundred times before saying, writing, thinking or whispering anything. The fear is not for myself but fear for my kids. My respect to you, cousin.
I know, we all (me included) sometimes frus lah but this is where we are, what we are and the country is lidat. But you painted a very….lively and realistic picture indeed.
Wah, Jamie still angry ah? Wahahaha……ok Jamie, let it out, let the steam out and no need cigarettes liow.
Oops cannot talk about cigarettes here cos Marsha is cutting down. Wonder how Marsha is doing…..
Oh, sorry Marsha, forgot this is your blog…..how rude of me to chat to Jamie using your ’space’.
I think the sense of patriotism (in the case of flag waving) will come when we are in a foreign land, or when we are in an event where everyone else is doing so in a joyous mood.
Ive always like Aug because of the colours on the streets by the flags. To me it has a sense of pride for the country
Oh btw, you know, so many people can flaunt a USA or UK, to an extend even Aus flag on their T shirts or caps, but not a Malaysian one. lol.
